2017 is the 50th anniversary of the Summer of Love, the few months in 1967 when thousands of young people, primarily white and middle-class, flocked to the Haight Ashbury in search of ideals wildly different from those espoused by society at large. Many events and activities are scheduled during the year, from concerts in the park, to historical society and museum exhibitions, lectures, online forums, films, non-profit dinners and block parties and more.
The California Historical Society, with San Francisco Travel, has assumed a clearinghouse role for Summer of Love 50, and an exhaustive list of participating organizations can be found on their websites.
